After several decades of publication, the Scientific–Research Journal of Natural Resources of Iran expanded into four specialized scientific journals following the increasing specialization of education and research at the Faculty of Natural Resources and the development of postgraduate programs at the M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels.

The journal publishes original research articles; currently, review articles are not accepted. it aims to disseminate the latest research findings across a broad range of topics, including environmental assessment and spatial planning; sustainable land-use planning and management; wildlife ecology and management; biodiversity management; environmental pollution in natural environments; ecology and management of natural ecosystems; nature-based tourism; strategic environmental assessment; environmental impact assessment of development projects; climate-change adaptation; ecosystem services management; participatory environmental management; environmental valuation and environmental economics; wetland and coastal ecology and management; ecological footprint; environmental modeling; and decision-support systems for natural-environment management.
The journal is indexed in the international CAB database, as well as the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) and Scientific Information Database (SID) of the Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR), University of Tehran.
